Have you ever been to Brixton Market?

Errol Linton’s work transports the spectator immediately into a world of hustle and bustle filled with music, voices, people shouting, singing, preaching, bargaining: if you were to squint, all would melt into an explosion of colour, pattern and form. If you tried hard enough you could almost here music played or even smell the various goods sold: fish, jerk chicken….
Some of Linton’s more recent works seem to take simple scenes to extremes, as if all of the above were magnified and amplified. Voices suddenly become a symphony of thousand mouths talking, singing, screaming, whispering. Simple glances suddenly turn into a multitude of prying, laughing, wandering or gazing eyes….Shadowy figures stalk the night deathlike……

Bold in colour and brush stroke, Linton’s paintings at first may remind of fauvism and surrealism yet they are very idiosyncratic in style and denote of the artist’s unique power of imagination and strength of expression.

Without a doubt his studies of social behaviour and local characters drawn from street scenes shout volumes and should certainly be heard and seen.

Brixton born, Errol starts from a small simple sketch, developing the composition from memory and imagination. For over twenty five years he has been painting, carving and performing music.

He says "I feel my music and art feed off each other. I like trying to capture the atmosphere and movement of the moment.” (Linton 2008)
