CASTE AWAY ARTS

Presents the 2008 tour of their successful stage play

THE FIFTH CUP

A TOUCHING, HUMOUROUS, AND UPLIFTING PLAY THAT LIFTS THE LID ON CASTE DISCRIMINATION WITHIN THE BRITISH ASIAN COMMUNITY
The Fifth Cup is the story of fifteen year old Amrit Singh who, along with the rest of his family, moves to a new city to make a fresh start.

All is going well until Amrit makes a shocking discovery about his past. From then on his world is turned upside down.

The Singh family find themselves being shunned by the local community and cracks start to appear in their once strong, family unit.
Will Amrit be able to overcome the prejudice surrounding him? And will the Singh family need to run away from their secrets yet again?
This thought provoking, inter-generational play has plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and guarantees to touch the hearts of everyone who sees it.

Midlands based Caste Away Arts are the artistic wing of the charity CasteWatchUK. They are fast making a name for themselves as an innovative young theatre company tackling taboo issues. They aim to eliminate discrimination through theatre and want to tell the stories of those that have been “cast away” from society because of their caste, creed, race, religion, age, gender or circumstances.

Based on true life experiences, Caste Away Arts first play, The Fifth Cup, gives a poignant insight into caste discrimination within the British-Asian community. Having received a fantastic reception at The Drum Theatre in Birmingham where the production premiered last December, Caste Away Arts are touring The Fifth Cup at the following venues:

Friday 7th and Saturday 8th November
