The free festival, now in its seventh year, is a celebration of Manchester’s refugee communities and will be held at Urbis and Cathedral Gardens for the first time this year.
Cooks, performers, artists and communities will share food, music, dance and culture from across the globe and made in Manchester.
With soul food and home cooking from Somalia, Sudan, DR Congo, Iraq and Bosnia, this is a unique opportunities for you foodies out there to taste world cuisines.
Two main stages will feature an alchemic mix of both traditional and contemporary music and dance including: Hot bhangra beats from Asian Music Talent, African Gospel from Testimony, Kurdish traditional music from Lost Melody, passionate and soulful sounds from Bosnian group Behar, jazz fusion from the amazing Kokorico, the unique hip hop of Educated Thugz and East Manchester’s renowned Samba band Bloco Novo.
This is just a flavour of the music and dance now happening in a street near you. Also included: sights, sounds and bites from Uganda, Afghanistan, Cameroon and much more.
A chill-out room will host a traditional Eritrean coffee ceremony with free popcorn served while you relax on cushions and listen to story-telling, short films and spoken-word performances.
Exhibitions will include contemporary Kurdish art, wall hangings and textiles created by refugee communities across Greater Manchester.
Workshops will give visitors a chance to try out new skills including: percussion, MC-ing and Kurdish art, there are also plenty of activities for children, so bring the family.
Ruth Daniel, the Exodus Festival Coordinator, said: “This is a relaxed, friendly, family event, celebrating the vibrant arts and culture of Manchester’s diverse refugee communities.
“It will give visitors the chance to experience, taste, see and enjoy the culture of the refugee communities that make such a positive contribution to the social, economic and cultural life of Greater Manchester.”
