Icons of Indian cinema unite to launch the ‘Light a Billion Lives’ Campaign

The stars of Indian Cinema’s biggest night out ever - the forthcoming Unforgettable Tour - gathered in Mumbai on Friday 11th July at the Press Conference to launch the most highly anticipated Bollywood stage show of the decade and the Unforgettable Tour’s ‘Light a Billion Lives’ campaign against global warming.
Icons of Indian cinema - Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Riteish Deshmukh - came together to launch the forthcoming tour, which will showcase the very best that Indian cinema has to offer. The press conference also highlighted the noble case that The Unforgettable Tour will be promoting. The Unforgettable Stars pledged their support to the ‘Light a Billion Lives’ campaign - an initiative of The Energy Resource Institute of India (TERI) headed by Nobel Laureate, Dr R K Pachauri. The campaign proposes to provide solar lanterns to light up the homes of a billion people, thereby harvesting the power of clean energy. The villages will be chosen across nine countries across India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Maldives and the African Continent focusing on Ethiopia, Tanzania, Ghana and Malawi. A target has been set to light 100 villages across the world by February 2009.

Global ambassador of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, commented “We are proud to be associated with the noble cause that The Unforgettable Tour strives to promote. I believe it is imperative for us to spread awareness on the global challenges we face today. It is only together that we can save our home, our planet.” He added, “We are geared up to kick-off the tour, and are eagerly looking forward to reaching out to our fans, through this spectacular platform.”

Nobel Laureate, Dr. R. K. Pachauri said, “The world of stardom internationally and particularly in India has the power to transform and act as positive change agents for society at large - more so for the socially underprivileged. It is most heartening that Mr. Amitabh Bachchan and his family has accepted our invitation as goodwill ambassadors for TERI's (The Energy and Resources Institute) global campaign, ‘Lighting a Billion Lives’ (LaBL).

“I am delighted that through the good offices of Wizcraft International Entertainment
Pvt Ltd, The Unforgettable Tour is moving across the globe with a mission to provide light and hope for the dispossessed sections of society across the world. The Indian film industry has a massive fan following and film celebrities receive love and adulation from the public in large measure. Their involvement in such causes can be a powerful instrument for social transformation. Mr. Bachchan and his family’s acceptance to be the torch bearers of this campaign evokes deep respect and admiration.”

The Unforgettable Tour will be launching the initiative with a humble contribution to the first village in the first phase. Others who wish to contribute to this cause can do so by visiting The Unforgettable Tour website: www.theunforgettabletour.com and donating solar lanterns to a village, thus making a huge difference in the lives of many with this simple step. Alternatively, visitors to the website can adopt a village, or simply make a donation.

The Unforgettable Tour will make its spectacular finale at London’s O2 Arena on Sunday 24th August 2008, presented by world class promoters, Showbiz International and AEG Live. The show will make its grand opening in Toronto on 18th July, 2008, before descending upon 11 destinations across the globe, including Trinidad, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Atlantic City, Chicago, New York, Vancouver and Rotterdam.

To add to the spectacle, each show will welcome on stage a host of celebrity guest performers. While heartthrob Akshay Kumar will rock the stage with an ‘unforgettable’ act in Toronto, the evergreen dancing queen Madhuri Dixit will dazzle all with her mesmerising moves across the United States and Vancouver, while the vivacious Shilpa Shetty adds her unique glamour and style to the show in London.

The Unforgettable Tour extravaganza is choreographed by the internationally renowned Shiamak Davar, while leading music director duo Vishal-Shekhar has composed the soundtrack.
