Chand Raat Market celebrates Eid

Images Video Audio
In celebration of the Muslim festival Eid-ul-Fitr, Manchester Markets will be welcoming back the sensational Chand Raat to Longsight.
Longsight Market on the corner of St John’s and Dickenson Road has proved it is a pioneering location, hosting the first Eid celebration at a market in 2002. This year the night market Chand Raat will take place on Thursday October 11 from 5pm until 10.30pm.

St John’s Road will be closed to accommodate the crowds for this fun-filled family evening. There will be live music, a fun fair, henna painting, bangles and bhangra dancers to mark the occasion – Eid is a Muslim holiday that marks the end of Ramadan.

Specialists selling Asian food, crafts, jewellery and fashion will join regular traders from Longsight Market. The focus is on entertainment for all and stalls selling food such as fragrantly spiced samosas, pakoras and kebabs will keep the chill away. Ready-made Asian garments will be available and the traditional decorative Asian shoes associated with Eid will also be on sale.

Councillor Eddy Newman, Executive Member for Manchester Markets, said:
“This is a great event where communities can come together and celebrate a happy and peaceful Eid in an entertaining way. Manchester is very proud of its specialist markets and this event at Longsight, a popular community market, is a great meeting point for residents and visitors. Come along and try the delicious food.”
