United Through Heritage

Images Video Audio
United Through Heritage Exhibition provides a glimpse into the vibrant and rich cultural heritage of arts from the Indian Sub-Continent through showcasing the work of five North West British Asian artists.
United Through Heritage marks the end of the national Festival of Muslim Cultures and for Waterside Arts Centre the start of an exciting programme of Asian Arts development. Robina Sheikh recently visited a number of art galleries in Pakistan to research how they’ve engaged audiences. The research proved fruitful, as Robina has now curated her first major exhibition that runs from 14th July to 29th September 2007.

The art of Muiz Al Khattat, Gulnar Banoo, Samsul Islam, and Sadia Khan fuse western influences with the traditional, creating modern interpretations of calligraphy on ceramics and canvas, connecting them to their own individual heritage. Monir Ali’s collection of photographs’ deal with themes of culture and identity that provide a personal reflection of how Asian see themselves and how they are seen by others.
