The PRECIOUS Awards, an annual event that applauds the achievements of women of colour in business, leadership and work marks its 10th Year.
The awards were founded by Foluke Akinlose MBE, after she noticed a lack of awards that truly rewarded women of colour in business and work.
“10 years ago, there was very little diversity, and there were no awards that celebrated women of colour. Rather than wait for one to just appear, I decided to create my own, one that put the spotlight firmly on the talented plethora of talent that exists in the UK.” Says Foluke.
To date, over 100 women have received awards, and Foluke was awarded with an MBE for her services to business and entrepreneurship, and former Prime Minister David Cameron said the awards are “vital.”
“Getting an MBE was a shock, as I certainly was not expecting it. It was great to be acknowledged in this way, and it has made me more determined to help other people achieve recognition for their achievements,” concludes Foluke.
There awards ceremony will be held on 27th October at RIBA in London.
