McDonald’s Franchisee serves up a £300,000 staff training centre

McDonald’s Franchisee, Atul Pathak, will officially launch a staff training centre at his Southall restaurant this week, offering workplace skills and nationally recognised qualifications to the 1,400 staff he employees across North and North West London.

Atul, who is the 2010 recipient of the Asian Who’s Who International Asian Leadership in Franchise award and owns 20 McDonald’s restaurants, has invested £300,000 in the state-of-the-art training centre, which is part of his ongoing commitment to the development and training of staff. As well as being equipped with computer workstations and audio visual teaching aids for interactive training sessions, the facility is also an accredited examination centre enabling staff to sit exams on-site in the presence of qualified invigilators.

The suite of qualifications available includes Basic and Advanced Shift Management, making it possible for staff to gain a Level 3 Diploma in Shift Management, which is nationally recognised on the Qualification and Credit Framework. Staff can also study for a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Multi-Skilled Hospitality. The apprenticeship recognises job-specific skills acquired through workplace training, combined with GCSE-equivalent Maths and English.

Speaking about the launch of his training centre, Atul Pathak said: “It’s an honour to be able to provide a facility which will enhance the training and development of my staff working across my restaurants. The nationally recognised qualifications offer a boost for staff who can use them to build a rewarding career at McDonald’s, or use them in the future for other roles in the hospitality sector.”

At the launch event, which will be attended by Virendra Sharma the MP for Ealing Southall, guests will have a tour of the facilities and learn more about staff development and training directly from Atul and his team.
